Ghana implements human trafficking project

Ghana has implemented an ECOWAS Project on human trafficking interventions within the sub-region.

Under the project, the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs obtained a grant facility from the ECOWAS Trafficking in Person Unit to implement a number of activities including consultations with district assemblies in Kete-Krachi in the Volta Region and Yeji in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The Deputy Sector Minister, Hajia Hawawu Gariba Boya, who disclosed this noted that under the project, the capacities of about 40 departments, agencies and institutions were built on human trafficking concepts and issues.

She was enumerating a number of sustained interventions implemented in the country in addressing the human trafficking phenomenon at a forum in Kumasi.

Hajia Gariba Boya said twenty (20) rescued children were provided with school supplies such as exercise books, bags among others to encourage them to stay in school. Also over one thousand members of the communities were sensitized on human trafficking issues.
